Eliminate Slicing the Ball – Learning Plan

Struggling with a 'banana ball', the dreaded left-to-right curve (for right-handers)? Slicing the ball slice robs you of distance and accuracy. Here’s the 3-lesson plan I trust to straighten things out —clear -practical fixes from top instructors.

What is a Slice? A “slice” is a golf shot where the ball curves dramatically in flight from left to right (for a right-handed golfer). The slice can be played intentionally, but is usually the result of a mishit.

What causes It?
A slice happens when the clubface is open relative to the swing path, sending the ball curving off to the right. It’s one of the most common swing faults—and one of the most fixable.

Lesson 1: Why You Slice the Ball

Erika explains the two main reasons slices happen, and she does it with clarity. Sometimes it’s not about effort – it’s about intention and understanding the geometry of the swing. If you want to know why you slice, start here.

Just a reminder – I’m the site editor, not a teaching pro. For personalized help, always seek advice from one of our qualified LPGA or PGA instructors. But I’m confident that trying even one of these drills this week could help you straighten your shots.

Good luck – and here’s to your slice permanently eliminated!
