How to Swing Fully with Limited Hip Mobility

Sara Davis demonstrates her setup adjustment for golfers with limited hip mobility who want to achieve a full, successful rotation without strain. By simply moving the trail foot, you can pre-set the hips in a rotational position, making it easier to complete the backswing.
How to Apply this Lesson Step-by-Step

Your Action Plan: The Drop and Turn Setup

What: Adjust your standard setup by slightly dropping your trail foot back and flaring it out (turning it away from the target).

Why: This simple modification helps the hips pre-set themselves in rotation before the swing begins. This alleviates the strain of limited mobility, allowing you to achieve a fuller, easier backswing turn.

How to Execute the Setup:

Swing: With your hips already positioned to facilitate rotation, execute your normal backswing. This modification helps ensure that limited hip mobility does not prevent you from making a full coil.

Square Start: Begin with a standard square setup: shoulders, hips, and feet aligned parallel to the target line.

Drop Back: Take your trail foot (right foot for right-handers) and drop it back slightly behind the line of your lead foot.

Flare Out: Simultaneously, turn the trail foot out (flare the toes away from the target).
