Stop Missing Putts: The Three Fixes

Are your putts consistently missing the line, starting right or left? Christina Ricci identifies the three most popular culprits of inconsistent putting—all related to movement you didn't even know you were making. Learn to quiet your lower body, stabilize your wrists, and eliminate head bobbing for more reliable putting.

Your Action Plan

What: Your goal is to identify and correct the three most common causes of inconsistent putting direction: lower body movement, flicky wrists, and head movement.

Why: Excessive movement in the lower body, wrists, or head destabilizes the stroke, making it impossible to consistently hit the ball on your intended line.

How:

  • Stop the Dance: Keep your lower body completely quiet and still throughout the stroke.
  • Quiet the Wrists: Keep your wrists passive and stable. Check that your grip is in the palm of your hands (in that little pocket) and not in your fingers, which invites flicking.
  • Lose the Bobblehead: Keep your head still throughout the stroke. Allow your shoulders and chest to rock around your spine, but prevent any unnecessary head movement.
