Your Action Plan
What: Your goal is to establish the correct driver setup angle to create a stable base for power and prevent an over-the-top swing.
Why: Being “stacked up” (straight line) over your back leg eliminates the angle and leverage needed to push off the ground during the downswing, leading to a loss of power and an over-the-top move.
How:
- Eye Line Behind Club Head: Ensure your eye line is positioned behind the golf ball’s club head.
- Tilt for Leverage: Set up so your lead shoulder is tilted up and your back shoulder is tilted down.
- Back Foot Quadrant: Position your lead shoulder (high side) in the back foot quadrant (over your trail leg). This creates a crucial angle in your stance.
- Avoid Stacking: Do not let your body get “stacked up” (straight) over the back leg. If your back leg is straight and your eye line is too far forward, you lose the angle required to push off the ground to start the downswing, which will likely result in an over-the-top swing.
