The Best Tee Box Strategy For Your Drives

Did you know you can hit more fairways just by teeing up the ball in the right spot? Cathy Kim, Director of Instruction at the Baltimore Country Club, shows you how.

Often times, when we aren’t hitting our tee shots the way that we want, we try to change the mechanics of our swing in the middle of the round. Instead, try strategically placing your ball in the tee box so you can play your natural shot and keep the golf ball in play.

My miss is a slice to the right (left for left-handers) so what I do when I am hitting a lot of slices is I tee the ball up on the right side of the tee box. The reason for this is when I move to the right side of the tee box, it blocks out the right side of the hole and opens up to the left side. If your miss on the day is a hook, then try setting yourself up on the left side of the tee box.

The key to this tip is to figure out your tee shot trend during your pre-round warm up so you can anticipate the shot. Don’t try to force a different swing when you’re swinging the club on the course. Instead, work with what you have on the day and it will help to make small setup changes like this.
