Lesson Notes: Eliminating “Floppy Feet” for Better Contact
The Goal: To eliminate inconsistent ball-striking by properly engaging the trail leg and anchoring weight correctly during the backswing.
The “Floppy Feet” Problem:
- Unengaged feet lead to inconsistent contact with the ball every time.
- When the trail leg isn’t anchored, it often remains straight-ish, causing the body to slide rather than rotate.
The Fix: Anchoring the Trail Foot
- The Setup: Before the club moves back, anchor your weight onto the inside of your trail foot.
- The Load: This allows you to stay loaded into that leg at the top of your swing and sit back into your glutes.
- The Downswing: Proper anchoring creates a stable platform to push off from as you start your move toward the target.
FAQ
Q: How does anchoring my foot help my ball striking?
A: It helps the club make more consistent contact with the ball and the turf, which ultimately helps you hit every club in your bag better.
Q: What happens if I don’t anchor on the inside of my foot?
A: Your trail leg becomes unengaged and “straight-ish,” which leads to a sliding motion instead of a powerful, controlled load.
