The Real Reason Your Golf Isn’t Improving

Kristin Walla asks what's inside the mind of a golfer? and changes it to a better question - what SHOULD be in the mind of a golfer?

The REAL Reason You Aren't Improving

The REAL Reason You Aren't Improving

So, what’s inside the mind of a golfer anyway?

Don’t mess up. I’m gonna hit this so far. God, I hope I don’t with ob on the left leg on the right. God, I hate bonkers. I hope we don’t play slow today. Okay, what was I supposed to remember?

Oh yeah, two knuckles on my left hand.

Right shoulder back. It’s my clubface square wave. What am I cooking for dinner tonight? Did I leave a coffee pot on.

What was I thinking about?

Oh yeah, stay behind it. Relax. Trust. God, I hope I clear that water hazard.

Let’s face it, there’s a lot you could be thinking of in your golf swing. But which of those thoughts are really going to help you in a real-life on course moment of truth. Golf is a series of decisions and what comes from good decision making? decisiveness, conviction. So as the old cliche goes, whether you’re right or wrong, you’re right. You have to believe that swing thought have their place, mostly on the driving range. But once you tee it up on the first hole, it’s time to take your golf swing from a list of thoughts to a decisive plan. There’s a difference between thinking and focusing from trying to feeling. Remember, you have hit a good golf shot before. Why shouldn’t this one be the best shot of your life? And guess what? You don’t even have to be perfect. What’s more important than being perfect or correct all the time is that you trust and believe in your plan, your decision, you just have to be committed.

Here’s a novel Thought golf doesn’t have to be hard.

If you can keep your mind quiet, keep it calm, keep it focused on one thing, it gives you confidence and just expects your shot to be fine. Just be normal. Just be an average Good shot, most of the time you’ll play well. In fact, you’ll play great. Golf is not a game of perfect. Every shot is some level of a miss. So if you can just hit your 70 to 80% shot, you’ll still probably be in the fairway. Most fairways are 30 to 40 yards wide. That’s room to miss. And once you’ve let go of the idea of being perfect, you’ll start missing it a lot better. So let’s review. Take your swing thoughts to the range. Bring your focus to the tee and keep it simple. Feel your swing, don’t think it Commit to your plan and embrace your misses. Don’t try to be perfect. Pretty good is good enough.
