How Do You Fix a Slice?

LPGA Legends Tour player Cindy Miller demonstrates how to relax your wrists and square the clubface to hit the ball straighter.

A slice is a shot that starts our straight but turns to the right for a right-handed player and to the left for a left-handed player.

Sometimes well meaning advice can confuse you, give you too much to think about and mess you up.

Beware of:

  1. Keep Your Head Down
  2. Keep Your Left Arm Straight
  3. Shift Your Weight/Turn Your Shoulders
  4. Hit the Ball
  5. Follow Through

On the backswing, if you turn, the clubhead will go back further than your front arm. If you shift your weight and pull through, the club face will be behind the grip, the clubface will be wide open, and the ball will go way right for right-handed players (left for left-handed players).

Cindy’s Steps for Fixing Your Slice

  • Knock your knees in toward each other.
  • Keep your body still.
  • Relax your wrists
  • Swing back with relaxed wrists.
  • Throw the face back to the ball with your back hand.
