Fix the Casting in Your Golf Swing

Are you losing distance and consistency because your golf club "droops"? In this lesson, Cathy Kim shares a simple drill using a hand towel to help you hold the angle of your club. Learn how to hit down on the ball, improve your consistency, and gain more distance.

Your Action Plan

What: Your goal is to practice a simple drill that will prevent your club from “drooping” and help you hit down on the ball with a forward-moving club handle.

Why: A “drooping” club can cause you to lose power and hit inconsistent shots. This drill helps you maintain the correct angle of the club, which leads to better contact and more distance.

How:

  • Set Up the Drill: Place a towel one grip-length behind your ball.
  • Hold the Angle: Practice swinging and focusing on holding the angle of the club through impact to avoid hitting the towel.
  • Move the Handle Forward: Focus on moving the handle of the club forward through impact for a clean strike.
  • Start Slowly: Begin with slow-motion swings and gradually increase your speed to a full swing.
