How to Apply this Lesson Step-by-Step
Your Action Plan: The Headcover Launch Drill 🚀
What: Use your driver headcover as a visual aid placed in front of the ball to force an ascending strike (hitting up on the ball) for better launch.
Why: To maximize distance with the driver, you need to hit the ball on the way up (positive angle of attack). Placing an object in front of the ball, visible in your peripheral vision, subconsciously forces your swing path to avoid the object by ascending through impact.
How to Execute the Drill:
Result: This visual obstacle encourages the clubhead to move up through the impact zone, creating a higher launch angle for greater distance.
Placement: Take your driver headcover and place it on the ground about one foot in front of the ball (toward the target).
Setup: Take your normal driver setup, focusing on the ball but keeping the headcover visible in your peripheral vision.
Swing: Swing the driver, consciously or subconsciously trying to avoid hitting the headcover.
