Initiate Your Downswing with Power

Are you swinging mostly with your arms and leaving distance on the table? In this lesson, Lindsay Knowlton from Iron Lady Golf shares a powerful drill to fix your swing sequencing. Learn how to get your lower body to initiate the downswing, leading to more power, better consistency, and increased distance.

Your Action Plan

What: Your goal is to train your body to start the downswing using your lower body, known as proper swing sequencing.

Why: Using only your arms is inefficient and robs you of power. Initiating the downswing with your legs and hips allows you to use your entire body to generate speed.

How:

  • Start with Feet Together: Address the ball with your feet touching.
  • Take the Club Back: Begin your backswing normally.
  • Step Forward: At the top of your backswing, step forward with your lead foot (front foot) to your normal stance width.
  • Swing: Immediately swing through the ball.
  • Feel the Initiation: This exaggerated movement forces you to feel your lower body stepping and initiating the downswing before your arms follow.
