Requested by Mary in the Women’s Golf Lessons Group who said “I’m coming back from a shoulder replacement and before the surgery I had to bend my elbow into my backswing to be able to play. I’m swinging great now the surgery is done but I can’t seem to lose the bend in my arm. I guess my muscle memory has changed. Are there any exercises or stretches I can do to get my arm to straighten out?”
Doing the Wide Takeaway Drill
- Stand in your golf posture holding a golf club.
- Start your swing, keeping the clubface square.
- Using your shoulders, followed by your arms and hands. Stop at the halfway back point where the club reaches hip high and the toe of the club should point to the sky.
- Return to the start position and repeat motion. Do 8 to 10 repetitions.
