Innovative Women Golfers of NC

It’s great to be a member of a club at a golf course but better still is the opportunity to join or start a local women’s golf group where members can enjoy playing at more than one golf course in the area. In our travels we found out about the wonderful ‘Innovative Women Golfers of NC‘ founded in 2011 by Rhonda Sampson who is living her dream of uniting and connecting woman in the sport of golf.Innovative Women Golfers of NC

Rhonda, we think your group is really terrific and there are so many things that women, who are considering setting up a similar community around the world can learn from you. Tell us a little about how it all works.

The goal of the ‘Innovative Women Golfers of NC’ is to create an organization that introduces and unites woman of all backgrounds, ages and skillsets together for a common goal…to learn, connect and have fun playing golf.  Our group connects a healthy network of women golfers – from new to advanced, while the group originated in Greensboro, NC, we’re in the process of expanding into the Raleigh/Durham, Cary and the Burlington areas, in addition to exposing and exploring a variety of different golf courses and golf resorts through-out North Carolina and beyond.

We run group ‘Golf Clinics’, ‘Play-Dates’ and ‘Driving Range’ events designed to develop, enhance and advance our golf game.  If you’re new in town, have a desire to become active and meet other amazing ladies that enjoy playing golf – then the Innovative Women Golfers of NC welcomes you with open arms.

We’re a group of dynamic women who enjoy learning and playing golf. There’s lots of camaraderie and fun to be had on the golf course. No prior golf experience is required but we do require beginners and those that have been removed from the sport for a while, to invest in golf lessons and golf clinics before joining an announced group ‘Play-Date’. This requirement ensures each new member learns the correct etiquette, form, and technique required to be successful and have unlimited fun learning and playing golf.

One of the most interesting things about Innovative Women Golfers of NC is your very smart use of Meetup to promote and run group activities.

Yes, we started with Meetup in 2012 and I use it in place of a website. One of the major benefits of using Meetup is that it provides a ready made in-house audience and a keyword search that helps non members to find the group.

It also has really good tools such as the calendar, discussion boards and photo albums. It’s perfect for a thriving women’s golf community like ours.
