Flop it Like it’s Hot! How to Hit Flop Shots

Hitting a high flying and soft landing flop shot doesn't have to be hard. Kristin Walla shows how it's done.

Here’s how to make flop shots easier than ever and, trust me, they don’t have to be as hard as people make them.

The reality of flop shots is that they need a big swing for a short shot. If you’re going to take a long backswing, you need to have confidence in sweeping the ground. Otherwise, your next shot is likely to be from a bad situation, and we never want our next shot to be harder than THIS one.

Let’s see how to flop it like it’s hot!

Doesn’t that sound doable? Just remember that tension—especially in your hands and forearms— is a killer! You have to relax and allow the club to swing freely, and make that lovely thud sound you heard in the video.

To get the big height on the ball, I set up with a lot of loft by moving my ball position way up in my stance almost like a driver. The club is still aiming at the flag, but my feet aim left. Then I hinge the club up and down with my wrists for maximum trajectory.

It’s really key here to get that right hand (for right-handers) on top of the club to help that club stay open. If the right palm holds from under the grip, the clubface wants to shut and that destroys all the loft we have just added. It also restricts your wrist action.

So, right hand on top, keep your arms relaxed and let it FLOW.

Now you know how to flop it like it’s hot!

Golf doesn’t have to be hard.
