One of the biggest reasons that people lose distance with their shots is ‘casting’. Heres a really great drill that’s designed for you to do at home. ‘Casting the golf club’ is often described as the ‘early release’ or starting the downswing with a premature release of the wrists
The key to preventing casting is maintaining your angles and lag in your downswing. You’ll see what I mean in the video below but we are not going to get into detailed specifics because what matters is how you’re going to fix it.
Steps for the Indoor Anti-casting drill
- Set the clubhead on the side of a chair
- Start with the lower body by rotating and pressing into your lead leg
- Allow the club to move along with your arms
- Once the club slips off the chair, let the club go so it “releases”
This is an easy fun drill that is going to improve your distance and your ability to make good contact and that is going to lower your scores!
