These are the seven habits common to highly effective golfers that anyone of any skill set can bring to their game immediately.
- Trust your instincts. You may not have the instincts of a tour pro or a club champion but you have your own instincts and so much of golf is about trusting what you see with your own eyes and and trusting the skills that you are more confident in so no matter what club you choose it’s always the right club!
- Think backwards. When you are creating a plan for your shot always think backwards. By this I mean think about what shot you want to hit into the green and then how to get this shot into a position to hit that shot.
- Use the same routine with the same timing on every shot. It doesn’t matter if it’s the most or least important shot of your day you should always be about consistency. Don’t take extra time over that clutch putt just because you care about it more. You need to aim for as much similarity on every shot as possible.
- Take your practice swings behind your ball. From behind the ball you get a much better view of what you’re about to do. You are visualizing your target, getting a feel for your routine.
- Set the club face first. When you step into that shot i want the club face first set club face first which sets the tone for the rest of your setup getting perpendicular and parallel, particularly your feet and shoulders.
- Look! and look again. Most importantly look at your target. So many golfers stare at the ball for 30 seconds going through a rolodex of thoughts. Don’t try to think your way to better golf – LOOK, FEEL, VISUALIZE.
- Finally, number seven – Clean up those grooves every single time. Whip out that towel it’s there for a reason.
