Warm Up To Improve Your Golf Game

Katie Dahl, Director of Instruction at West Bay Club, shares her tips on how to warm up before playing golf to improve your game. These warm-ups involving the whole body will help you achieve more distance and consistency in your game.

Benefits of Warming Up

There are many benefits to warming up before you play golf. Here are a few of them:

  • It helps to prevent injuries.
  • It improves your range of motion.
  • It increases your flexibility.
  • It helps you to hit the ball farther and more accurately.
  • It improves your stamina.
  • It helps you to stay focused and relaxed during your round.

Golf Warm-Up Exercises

A good warm-up is essential for any golfer, regardless of skill level. It helps to loosen up your muscles and joints, improve your range of motion, and prepare your body for the demands of a round of golf.

Here are two simple warm-up exercises that you can do before you hit the links:

1. Hip swings

  • Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold a golf club in front of you.
  • Slowly swing the club from side to side, keeping your hips loose and relaxed.
  • Do 10 repetitions on each side.

2. Core rotators

  • Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold a golf club in front of you.
  • Hook the club under your elbows and bend your knees slightly.
  • Slowly rotate your torso back and then forward, keeping your arms locked in place.
  • Do 10 repetitions.

These are just two examples of warm-up exercises that you can do before you play golf. There are many other exercises that you can try, so find a few that work for you and make them a part of your pre-round routine.
