Boost Your Confidence Around the Green: 3 Practice Swings for Better Chip Shots

Nathalie Sheehan demonstrates three easy practice swing checks to help you hit consistently good chip shots around the green.

Keep it simple around the green. Here are three tips you can include in your short game pre-shot routine to gain confidence and hit consistently great shots.

Step 1 – Choose High or Low

Firstly, you need to pick whether you are going to hit the ball high or low. whichever you pick should dictate your club selection.

Step 2 –  Same Distance Back and Through

Then, when you are making your practice swings, make sure the club is traveling back and through about the same distance so that you are sure to have a good tempo.

Step 3 – Hit the Ground at the Same Spot

Finally, make sure that you are hitting the ground in the same spot consistently during your practice swings. This is true regardless of whether you have picked a high shot or a low shot.

If you can accomplish these three things before you take your shot: making a decision, making the same size backswing and follow through, and hitting the ground in the same place every time, you are going to hit better shots around the green and shoot lower scores!
