Your Action Plan
What: Your goal is to use your trail foot’s big toe to create stability and leverage in the backswing, preventing sway and over-rotation.
Why: Peeling your trail foot’s big toe off the ground causes the ankle and knee to roll, introducing sway tendencies and eliminating the leverage needed to start the downswing effectively.
How:
- Claw the Ground: As you make your backswing, focus on actively pressing or clawing your trail foot’s big toe into the ground.
- Engage and Brace: Feel the entire back foot and leg engage as a solid brace against which your body turns.
- Prevent Sway: This action will prevent the over-rotation of your trail knee, ankle, or hip, which stops you from swaying off the ball.
- Release on Follow-Through: You can allow the toe and foot to release or roll up during the final follow-through, but it must remain planted and connected throughout the backswing.
