The Perfect Finish Drill

Maria Palozola demonstrates her Perfect Finish drill to help you get all your weight through the shot and end your swing in balance.

The Perfect Finish Drill is designed to not only make sure you get all your weight through the shot and end up balanced, but it will also help get the parts of your swing leading up to the finish on track. For instance, if you are swinging too far inside out or too far outside in coming into impact, it is difficult to get your finish on plane. By working backwards and training yourself to get a good finish, you can often correct swing path and balance errors.

How to Do the Perfect Finish Drill

Take your normal set up and make your usual golf swing. When you get to your finish the first thing you need to do is hold it for 5 seconds. This helps ensure that you are in balance and will help you to have the time to evaluate your finish position.
When you reach your finish check four things:

  1. Make sure that your rear foot is on the tip of the toe with no weight on it. The sole of this shoe should be facing back behind you.
  2. Squeeze your knees. Make sure that your knees are touching each other. This will tell you that you have fully rotated your hips and gotten the weight off your back foot.
  3. Check to make sure your belly button is facing your target.
  4. Make the club draw a line across the back of your head and connecting your ears.

Start making practice swings on the driving range checking your 4 points and holding your finish quietly in balance for 5 second or at least until you see your ball land. Practicing this routinely will help your accuracy and your power.
