Short Game Secret – Keep Your Hands Moving

Christina Ricci identifies a common short game error under pressure: the hands coming to a dead halt through impact. This causes the clubface to flip up, resulting in inconsistent misses like blades (skulled shots that fly over the green) or chunky shots that go nowhere. The fix is to maintain continuous, low movement toward the target.
How to Apply this Lesson Step-by-Step

Your Action Plan: Preventing the Flip

What: Maintain continuous, low movement of the hands and clubhead toward the target through and after impact on all short shots.

Why: When the hands stop, the clubhead rapidly passes the hands and flips (or scoops) the ball. This flip introduces the leading edge too early, leading to blades or chunky contact. Keeping the hands moving ensures a descending or level strike and consistent contact.

How to Execute the Finish:

Result: Eliminating the flip from your short game will eliminate most of your inconsistent contact issues, such as blades.

Continuous Motion: Focus on keeping the hands moving and the clubhead low as you swing through impact and toward the hole.

Hold the Finish: After impact, hold your finish briefly.

Check for the Flip: To self-correct and ensure you avoided the flip, perform the following check:

Take your trail hand (right hand for righties) off the club after holding the finish.

Check if your lead arm and the clubshaft form a straight line.

If the arm and shaft form a straight line, there was no flip. If the wrist has cupped and the clubface is pointing up, you flipped it.
