Choke Down Indoor Chipping Drill

Here's a great drill from Maria Palozola that you can do inside to help you stop flipping your wrists when you are chipping.

  1. Setup for a chip with your favorite greenside chipping club.
  2. Next, choke down about half way down the shaft. Notice how the butt end of the grip is pointed away from you and up the left side of your body (for right handers).
  3. Practice hitting chip shots and if the grip hits your trunk you know you have flipped. Make sure to keep the butt end of the grip pointed away from your side/trunk throughout the entire stroke and finish.
  4. Practicing the Choke Down Drill will teach you to use your pivot and large muscles rather than just flipping your hands and trying to help the ball.
