How to Control the Flight of Your Chip Shots

Want to get more creative around the green and hit a variety of shots? Christina Ricci breaks down the key adjustments that allow you to control the flight of your chip shots. Learn how to change your ball position and clubface to hit low runners, mid-flight chips, and high-flying lobs.

Your Action Plan

What: Your goal is to learn how to hit three different types of chip shots—low, mid, and high—by making simple adjustments to your setup.

Why: Knowing how to control the trajectory of your chips allows you to adapt to different situations around the green, giving you more options and confidence.

How:

  • For a Low Shot: Play the ball back in your stance with a square clubface and a straight setup.
  • For a Mid-Flight Shot: Play the ball in the middle of your stance with a square or slightly open face and minimal wrist hinge.
  • For a High Shot: Play the ball forward in your stance with an open clubface, and add more wrist hinge for a higher launch and less roll.
